“American Pie” – The summer’s funniest movie builds momentum with an endless string of hilarious scenes. Writer Adam Herz knows and respects his audience with a script that takes a funny, yet realistic, look at such issues as talking to girls, using the school restroom and various uses for apple pie. Sometimes it exaggerates for comic effect, but mostly the film is funny because it’s true. The characters are likable and sympathetic, making “American Pie” oddly affecting and uplifting. It has a good soundtrack, too. A+
