“Sweet Land” – Minneapolis writer-director Ali Selim, who shot the film in Montevideo, takes us back to a time when Norwegian immigrants earned a hard living from working the corn fields and milking cows. They also had to deal with controversial issues such as Olaf’s German wife (she might be a World War I spy, after all) and dancing when the sun is still up. It’s sweet, funny and way more engaging than it has any right to be.
