“Supernatural” Season 1 (2005-06, WB), episodes 1-7 – A WB honcho must’ve noticed that young people flock to theaters weekly to catch the latest Hollywood horror flick and figured, “Why not give ’em a horror movie every week for free?”
“Supernatural” (8 p.m. Tuesdays) chronicles two brothers (Jared Padalecki from “Gilmore Girls” and Jensen Ackles from “Dark Angel”) who are road-tripping across the country in search of their missing father, who taught them important life lessons, such as how to kill a Wendigo. Their quest is progressing slowly, though, because each week they stop to star in a horror movie.
It’s a lot of fun, and a great way to brush up on your knowledge of urban legends. This week, for example, Sam and Dean investigated deaths linked to the famous “hook in the car door” campfire tale. Before that, they tackled the Bloody Mary myth, water-dwelling spirits and evil doppelgangers, all the while growing on viewers with their banter and quirks. Dean, for example, doesn’t let anyone drive his car and listens to a steady diet of AC/DC; see, I told you the show was scary.
