Here’s a look at 10 television series on my radar in Fall 2025 plus a whole bunch of murder mysteries that I might sift through.
“The Paper” (Sept. 4, Peacock)
From the creators of the American “The Office” comes a sitcom about a struggling Midwestern newspaper. TV shows about newspapers are rare enough that I can’t totally scoff at this one. I still miss “Alaska Daily.”
“Only Murders in the Building” Season 5 (Sept. 9, Hulu)
I wasn’t big on Season 4, the first one to miss my year-end top 10. But you still can’t beat Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez as a crime-solving trio, so I’ll check in to see if they can figure out who offed the doorman.
“High Potential” Season 2 (Sept. 16, ABC)
If there was any doubt, “Always Sunny’s” Kaitlin Olson proved she can do network drama as well as nutso comedy. While this show isn’t quite as lovable as the canceled “The Irrational,” it does at least offer a spin on procedurals, as Morgan’s almost-otherwordly astute observations solve the crimes.
“Gen V” Season 2 (Sept. 17, Amazon Prime)
The appealing cast of superpowered collegians in the world of “The Boys” returns in the first season since the tragic death of actor Chance Perdomo.
“Chad Powers” (Sept. 30, Hulu)
Based on Eli Manning’s practical joke wherein he tried out for the Penn State football team after his NFL retirement, this Glen Powell-starrer sounds funny if only for the fact that he’s trying out for a team called the South Georgia Catfish.
“Monster” Season 3 (Oct. 3, Netflix)
Following seasons about other notorious serial killers, “The Ed Gein Story” probes the man whose depredations inspired three stone-cold horror classics: “Psycho,” “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre” and “Silence of the Lambs.”

“Murdaugh: Death in the Family” (Oct. 15, Hulu)
This docudrama about South Carolina deaths and their link to a powerful family would look good anyway, but I have to give it a shout-out because it comes from a podcast by my former co-worker at the Island Packet, Mandy Matney. She’s played by Brittany Snow in the series, and her colleague Liz Farrell is played by Alicia Kelley. I can confirm stellar casting in both cases.
“Mr. Scorsese” (Oct. 17, Apple TV Plus)
This five-episode documentary goes in-depth on the director responsible for some of the greatest crime dramas of the past half-century.
“IT: Welcome to Derry” (Oct. 26, HBO Max)
For those who can’t get enough of the wider Stephen King universe, here’s a prequel series to the two movies about evil clown Pennywise. Set in the early Sixties, it could do for that decade what “Stranger Things” did for the Eighties.
“Pluribus” (Nov. 7, Apple TV Plus)
It’s a sci-fi drama from Vince Gilligan – his first in this genre since 2005’s “Night Stalker” – and it stars his “Better Call Saul” actress Rhea Seehorn. Enough said.
Various mystery thrillers
Fall 2025 has no shortage of short-form mystery serials, although it’s hard to tell at a glance which ones will be elite. Look out for these eight:
- Olivia Cooke in “The Girlfriend” (Sept. 10, Amazon Prime),
- Toni Collette in “Wayward” (Sept. 25, Netflix),
- Jessica Chastain in “The Savant” (Sept. 26, Apple TV Plus),
- Jason Clarke in “The Last Frontier” (Oct. 10, Apple TV Plus),
- Sam Claflin in “Harlan Coben’s Lazarus” (Oct. 22, Amazon Prime),
- Emma Thompson in “Down Cemetery Road” (Oct. 29, Apple TV Plus),
- Sarah Snook and Dakota Fanning in “All Her Fault” (Nov. 6, Peacock)
- and Claire Danes in “The Beast in Me” (Nov. 13, Netflix).
